Reverse The central part features a three-line inscription: ГРИВЕННИКЪ1720, indicating the denomination and year of mintage. Above the inscription are 10 raised counting dots, arranged in two rows of five. The dots denote (duplicate) the coin's denomination. The edge of the coin has a twisted beaded border.
Obverse The center of the obverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle. Both heads of the eagle bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is positioned between them. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. The rim resembles a massive twisted cable (the denticles are angled relative to the field).
