Along the edge, the French inscription «BANQUE CENTRALE DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST», translated as «CENTRAL BANK OF WEST AFRICAN STATES». The beginning and end of the inscription are separated at the bottom by a raised dot element. In the central part, an image of a goldweight, a weight in the shape of a human, animal, or bird figure, used by the Ashanti people for weighing gold dust.
