    In the central part, a three-line inscription: 'MACU…' - 1 macuta, below a countermark from the period 1809-1837, all surrounded by five four-petaled flowers of two types (two and three in number) and enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA. PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim, the mint year 1789, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge, text in Latin: 'MARIA.I.D.G.REGINA.PORT.ET.D.GUINEÆ', the titles of Queen Maria I of Portugal. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
