Reverse In the central part, a partially preserved inscription: 'MACUTA', below a counterstamp from the period 1809-1837, all surrounded by five four-petaled flowers and enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA.PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim, the minting year 1814, separated from the inscription by two six-petaled flowers with dots on the sides.
Obverse In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge, text in Latin: 'JOANNES.D.G.REX.P.ET.D.GUINEÆ', the title of King of Portugal John VI.
