Below them is a two-line inscription in Ukrainian: "988 РIК"; from left to right along the rim is an inscription in Ukrainian: "ХРЕЩЕННЯ КИЇВСЬКОЇ РУСI", which together translate as: "988 Years Since the Baptism of Kievan Rus".
  • Obverse
The field is divided by two circles into three circular sectors. In the central circle is an Orthodox Christian cross, from which rays of varying lengths radiate in all directions (within the boundaries of the second sector). Above and below the cross, in a semicircle, is an inscription in Ukrainian: "ПРАВОСЛАВ'Я IЗ КИЕВА ПО ВСЕЙ РУСI", which translates as: "Orthodoxy from Kyiv to All Rus". The outer sector features a floral ornament. Superimposed on the ornament along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in Ukrainian: on the left, top, and right, separated by the Coat of Arms of Ukraine: "НАЦIОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ", which translates as: "National Bank of Ukraine", and at the bottom: "ПЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ" - 5 Hryvnias. The inscriptions are separated by: on the left, the Kyiv Mint mark, and on the right, the year of issue 2008.
