In the central part, against the background of a fortress, six mounted warriors in ancient armor are depicted. Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Ukrainian: «НОВГОРОД-СIВЄРЬСКОМУ КНЯЗIВСТВУ 900 РОКIВ», which translates to: «900 Years of the Novhorod-Siverskyi Principality».
Obverse
In the central part is a stylized image of the sun in the form of a circle with protuberances. To the left and right of the sun are two flying birds each, and above it is the coat of arms of Ukraine. Within the central circle is a three-line inscription in Ukrainian: «УКРАЇНА» – the name of the country, and «5 ГРИВЕНЬ» – 5 hryvnias. Below the image is the year of mintage, 1999.
