The central part of the reverse features a relief design of a crouching Maori warrior with a spear. To the left of the leg, the inscription 'KG' — the engraver's mark of George Edward Kruger-Gray.

    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. Along the rim, the text 'QUEEN . ELIZABETH . THE . SECOND', translating to 'Queen Elizabeth the Second'. The beginning and end of the inscription are separated by a cross. The central part features a right-facing profile of the young Queen wearing a wreath (variety: shoulder strap visible).
