In the central part, within a smaller circle, two sparrows are depicted facing each other, sitting on a branch of a thorny plant; below the branch is the monogram 'KG' - the mark of engraver George Edward Kruger-Gray. Around the edge of the coin, the text reads: on the right and left, the country name in Afrikaans and English: 'SUID-AFRIKA. SOUTH AFRICA'; at the top, separated by triangles, the year of issue 1924; at the bottom, separated by two four-pointed stars, the inscription: '1/4 PENNY 1/4' - 1/4 penny. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
