    In the central part, a partially preserved inscription: 'MACUTA', below it an overprint from the period 1809-1837, all surrounded by five four-petaled flowers of two types (two and three in quantity) and enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA.PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim, the mint year 1789, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. The edge of the coin features decorative raised teeth.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge, text in Latin: 'MARIA.D.G.REGINA.P.E.D.GUINEÆ', the title of Queen Maria I of Portugal. The edge of the coin features decorative raised teeth.
