In the central part, an inscription in Spanish in two lines: '1 REAL' - 1 real, framed by a laurel wreath. In the upper part, along the edge arc of the coin, text in Spanish: 'BOGOTA' - indicating the Bogotá mint. Along the lower edge arc are three six-pointed stars, separated by the letters 'R' and 'S'. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
Obverse
To the right, top, and left is an inscription in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA', which translates to 'Republic of New Granada'. In the central part is a stylized depiction of an open pomegranate on a branch, framed by two cornucopias turned downwards. Below, under the cornucopia, is the number 1838 - the year of minting, separated from the inscription by dots. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
