    In the central part, a portrait of Samuel de Champlain, founder of Quebec City, depicted against a backdrop of an old settlement and a sailing ship with the flag of the French crown, sailing on the bay. Below, near the edge on the founder's chest, the years 1608-2008 are indicated, separated by a depiction of a fleur-de-lis. To the right near the edge against the sea: 'SD' monogram of engraver Suzanne Duranceau. Along the upper edge in an arc, the text: 'CANADA' - the name of the country Canada in English and 'DOLLAR' - '1 dollar', separated by a fleur-de-lis.
