The central part features a lion in front of a sun - the coat of arms of Iran. Below, the text is struck in Persian: "نیم پهلوی" - "HALF PAHLAVI". Above is a crown. Along the left edge of the coin is an olive branch, and on the right, an oak branch; they cross at the bottom and are tied with a bow. Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim edges.

The central part features the left-facing profile of Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is his name in Persian: "محمّدرضا شاه پهلوى شاهنشاه ايران". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim edges.
