    In the central part, an inscription in Spanish in two lines: '½ REAL' - ½ Real, framed by a laurel wreath. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, text in Spanish: 'POPAYAN' - indicating the mint in the city of Popayán. Along the lower edge are three six-pointed stars, separated by the letters 'R' and 'U'. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
  • Obverse
    To the right, top, and left is an inscription in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA', which translates to 'Republic of New Granada'. In the central part is a stylized depiction of an open pomegranate on a branch, framed by two cornucopias turned downwards. Below, under the cornucopia, is the number 1838 - the year of minting, separated from the inscription by dots. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
