(1834 Eberbach - 1910 Munich) "Child Eating Cherries". Originally titled "Dressed in a White Shirt", the chubby-cheeked, dark-haired child sits on a cushion in the room, looking innocently at the viewer with rosy cheeks and enjoying the luscious red cherries from a bowl. At his feet, he has already collected some gnawed cherry pits and broken fruit stems. This lovingly characterized and charming genre painting is by Epps, who studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Ludwig des Coudres, and went to Munich in 1863, where he quickly became an internationally sought-after painter with his subtle and delicious genre paintings depicting figures in interiors. Oil on canvas, laid down on panel. Signed. 61 cm x 46 cm. Framed. Listed in the online catalogue raisonné of the Rudolf Epp Forum Heidelberg under the catalogue number EW 0414.
