(1817 Roskilde – 1877 Copenhagen) Napoleon’s Command Post by Fain, painted in a delicate, bright, tonal color palette, is a work of art by the Danish artist. In the background, one can recognize the Quandt Mill near Leipzig, which was used for the production of snuff. After Napoleon established his command post there on October 18, 1813, and soon lost the famous Battle of Leipzig, the mill became well known. The horseback rider in the foreground can be interpreted as Napoleon himself. Wegener studied at the Academy in Copenhagen from 1831/38, where he taught as a professor from 1847. From 1840 to 1843 he spent time in Germany, mostly in Munich. Oil on canvas, molding. Signed and dated 1836. 42 cm x 59 cm. In a frame.
