The artist initially began with an internship and then studied at the Academy in Königsberg. He became famous for his Gothic-style paintings in the Cathedral of Schleswig (1937/38) and in the St. Mary's Church in Leipzig (1948-1951), as well as for forgeries of works by significant contemporary artists and watercolors in the style of Emil Nolde.
