Silver mug
Description

Silver, partially gilded. On a surface bordered by narrow profile lines and a rounded profile, a tall, slightly swaying, bell-shaped cup rises. The bottom is decorated with double profile lines and a protruding edge. The lower half of the wall is adorned with a relief-carved tongue featuring finely engraved, alternating leaf decor, topped with stylized diamond-shaped leaves. The interior is gilded. Marks: engraving, trembling stroke, indicator, indistinct workshop mark, probably Mattheus II Baur (master around 1681), along with a tax mark for Paris (1687-1691). Weight approx. 45 g. Height 5.8 cm. Provenance: from the silver collection of Werner Hauger, Baden-Baden. A small German Baroque silver beaker with partial gilding, probably by Mattheus II Baur (master from around 1681). Interior gilded. Assay, hallmark, and indistinct workshop mark, French tax mark (1687-1691). German. Augsburg. 1685-1687.
