///TWO PLATES FROM THE 'SERVICE WITH THE NEW MODEL RUSSIAN COAT OF ARMS': THE CORONATION SERVICE OF ALEXANDER III. Imperial Porcelain Factory, 1883. Green underglaze factory mark: 'AIII 83' under a crown. Factory 'M.S. Kuznetsov Partnership', village of Dulevo, Pokrovsky district, Moscow province. Blue mark: double-headed eagle under a crown, inscription below 'M.S. Kuznetsov Partnership D.F.'. Gilded porcelain. Dimensions: 12 x 9.8 cm. Diameter: 24 cm.
For the 'Service with the New Model Russian Coat of Arms', two production dates can be named: 1883—the main set, made for the coronation of Emperor Alexander III, and 1896, when the set was expanded with similar items decorated for the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II (our plate is an addition to the 1896 set).
The main decoration of the items in this service is the coat of arms of the Russian Empire after the reform, which is why a service decorated in a similar manner from the reign of Nicholas I was, by the end of the 19th century, called the 'Service with the Old Model Russian Coat of Arms'.
