Description

Late 19th century. Kuznetsov Porcelain Factory. Faience. Painting. 25x12x8 cm. Also known as Ghazi Osman Pasha. He was an Ottoman field marshal and the hero of the Siege of Plevna in 1877. Despite failing to defend the city, he was awarded the title of Ghazi ("warrior" or "veteran") for his bravery in holding the city for five months against the superior forces of the Russo-Romanian armies. In addition to the title of his Aide-de-camp, Osman received the Order of Medjidie and the Imtiyaz Medal for his services to the Empire. Osman gained fame for his achievements, and the Plevna March was dedicated to him.
