Description

Late 19th century. Kuznetsov Porcelain Factory. Faience. Painting. 25x12x8 cm Also known as Gazi Osman Pasha. He was an Ottoman field marshal and the hero of the Siege of Plevna in 1877. Despite the failure to defend the city, he was given the title Gazi ("warrior" or "veteran") for his bravery in holding the city for five months against superior Russian-Romanian forces. In addition to his Adjutant rank, Osman received the Order of the Medjidie and the Imtiyaz Medal for his services to the Empire. Osman gained fame due to his achievements, and the regimental march Plevna was dedicated to him.
