The porcelain manufactory Hertwig & Co (Hertwig) was founded in Germany, Thuringia, in 1864 by Christoph Hertwig and produced children's dolls, decorative elements, gifts, as well as ceramic products and porcelain figurines. About 500 people were employed in production. In 1958, the factory was nationalized and became known as Katzhutte.

The product range was drastically reduced. A very interesting fact is that at the time of nationalization, a large number of the factory's historical samples were archived. Dolls, vases, and figurines were packed in boxes and locked away in one of the warehouses.

This archive was completely looted by state companies in the early 1980s; most of the items were sold at auctions in Berlin and London. Thanks to this fact, porcelain items produced at the factory before 1958 are highly valued among experts and collectors. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the factory was closed.
