The central part depicts the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. Above the eagle's heads is the imperial crown. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield with St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, intertwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Under the ribbon are the letters: left «Н», right «А». The initials of Mintmaster Nikolai Alekseev. Below the initials is the year of minting «1839.»
