    In the central part, against a background of a musical staff, is a depiction of P. I. Tchaikovsky seated on a chair. To the left, the dates '1840' and '1893', separated by a dot and arranged in a semicircle, denote the years of the composer's life. Above the dates is the composer's facsimile. At the top, along the circumference, is the inscription 'P. Tchaikovsky'.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR', slightly lower the denomination of the coin, the numeral '1', and below that the word 'RUBLE'. At the edge in the lower part is the year of mintage '1990'.
