    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the Registan architectural ensemble. Below it is a decorative line in the form of a spiral. Further below is the inscription 'SAMARKAND'. At the top, along the outer rim of the coin, the inscription 'REGISTAN' is placed in a semicircle. Below it are the dates 'XV-XVII centuries' in a semicircle and a decorative pattern.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR', slightly lower the coin's denomination numeral '5' and below the word 'RUBLES'. At the edge of the lower part is the year of mintage '1989'.
