The denomination (with asterisks to the left and right) and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: ⋆ 5 ⋆КОПѢЕКЪ Below, a decorative divider in the form of two curved lines with a small circle between them is placed. Under the lines is the mintmark "S.P.B.". The central part is separated from the rest of the design by a circle of dots. In the upper part, around the circle, is the incuse text: 1881 ГОДА In the left part of the coin, along the edge, is a laurel branch, and in the right part, an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied together with a ribbon forming a bow.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle. Both heads of the eagle bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is placed above and between them. They are all connected by the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear. Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. On the eagle's wings are depicted the coats of arms: of the Tsardoms of Kazan, Poland, Tauric Chersonesos, Astrakhan, Siberia, Georgia, and the combined coat of arms of the Principalities of Kiev, Novgorod, and Vladimir — 4 on each wing. Around the circumference are two semicircular cartouches, connected by ornaments. On the upper cartouche is the raised inscription: МѢДНАЯ РОССIИСКАЯ МОНЕТА On the lower cartouche, over a ribbon, is the incuse inscription: ПЯТЬ КОПѢЕКЪ
