Reverse The denomination (with asterisks on the left and right) and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: ⋆ 1 ⋆ KOPĒĬKA Below is a decorative divider in the form of two curved lines with a small circle between them. Under the lines is the mint mark 'S.P.B.'. The central part is separated from the rest of the design by a circle of dots. At the top, around the circumference, is the incuse text: 1881 GODA (1881 YEAR). Further down, along the edge, is a wreath of laurel and oak branches. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon, the knot of which forms a bow.
Obverse The center of the obverse features the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle. Both eagle heads bear crowns, and a larger third crown is positioned above and between them. All crowns are connected by the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear. The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. On the eagle's wings are depicted the coats of arms: of the Tsardoms of Kazan, Poland, Tauric Chersonesos, Astrakhan, Siberia, Georgia, and the combined coat of arms of the Principalities of Kiev, Novgorod, and Vladimir — four on each wing. Around the circumference are two semi-circular cartouches connected by ornamental patterns. The upper cartouche bears the convex inscription: MĒDNAIA ROSSIISKAIA MONETA (COPPER RUSSIAN COIN). The lower cartouche, over a ribbon, bears the incuse line: ODNA KOPĒĬKA (ONE KOPECK).
