    Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is the inscription '500TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIFIED RUSSIAN STATE'. In the center is the state seal of Ivan III (St. George the Victorious slaying the dragon, surrounded by a circular legend). Below is the year of compilation and adoption of the legal code of the Russian State '1497'. At the bottom, along the rim, is the inscription 'STATE SEAL OF IVAN III'.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR'. Below, to the left and right, is a dividing line. Under the line on the left is the chemical symbol Au and the fineness 900 of the coin's metal, below them the pure weight of the precious metal '15.55'. Under the line on the right is the mint mark 'MMD'. Slightly lower is the coin's denomination, the numeral '100' and below it the word 'RUBLES'. Near the lower edge is the year of mintage '1989'.
