In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal, is the coat of arms of Ternopil Oblast (Ukraine). Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Ukrainian: «ТЕРНОПIЛЬСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ. ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦI», which translates to: 'Ternopil Oblast, founded in 1939'.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal, is a collage consisting of a view of the city of Ternopil, two ancient fortress towers, an owl sitting on a branch, and a bouquet of flowers. Above the fortress is the year of minting, 2014. In the upper part, along the curved edge of the coin, is the coat of arms of Ukraine, separating the inscription in Ukrainian: «НАЦIОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ», which translates to: 'National Bank of Ukraine'. Below (separated from the upper inscription by a dot on the left and the Kyiv Mint mark on the right) is the inscription: «ПЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ» - 5 Hryvnias.
