In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal, is the coat of arms of Volyn Oblast (Ukraine). Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Ukrainian: «ВОЛИНСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ. ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦI», which translates to: 'Volyn Oblast, founded in 1939'.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal, is a collage consisting of: a fortress wall with two towers, an Orthodox church, a flying swan, wheat ears, and two poppy flowers. Above the fortress is the year of minting, 2014. In the upper part, along the arc of the coin's edge, is the coat of arms of Ukraine, separating the inscription in Ukrainian: «НАЦIОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ», which translates to: 'National Bank of Ukraine'. Below (separated from the top inscription by a dot on the left and the Kyiv Mint mark on the right) is the inscription: «ПЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ» - 5 Hryvnias.
