In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal against a background of national pattern, is the coat of arms of Chernivtsi Oblast (Ukraine). Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Ukrainian: «CHERNIVETSKA OBLAST. ZASNOVANA U 1940 ROTSI», which translates to: «Chernivtsi Oblast, founded in 1940».
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of yellow metal, is a collage consisting of: views of the fortress wall of the city of Chernivtsi and the university building, a shepherd herding sheep and playing a trembita (alpenhorn), a flower, and a carpet with a national ornament. In the center of the collage is the year of mintage, 2015. In the upper part, along the curved edge of the coin, is the coat of arms of Ukraine, separating the inscription in Ukrainian: «NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE», which translates to: «National Bank of Ukraine». Below (separated from the upper inscription on the left by a dot and on the right by the Kyiv Mint mark) is the inscription: «PYAT HRYVEN» - 5 Hryvnias.
