Reverse The central part of the reverse features a relief image of the seated goddess Liberty, facing left, with a Phrygian cap on a spear in her right hand. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is an inscription in Spanish, separated by three eight-petaled flowers: 'UN OCTAVO', meaning 'one eighth' - 1/8 (of a real). The coin's edge is decorated with raised denticles.
Obverse The central part depicts a bow, a quiver with arrows, and a flag. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs the text in Spanish: 'ESTADO LIBRE DE JALISCO', which translates to 'Free State of Jalisco'. In the lower part along the arc of the edge, separated by five-petaled flowers, is the mint year 1828. The coin's edge is decorated with raised denticles.
