Reverse Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in Creole: left 'LIBERTE', right 'EGALITE', translating to 'LIBERTY EQUALITY'. Below is the Metz mint mark 'AA', flanked on both sides by engravers' marks. In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a balance scale with pans. A Phrygian cap and a circular wreath are placed on top of the scale's beam, containing the inscription '1. S.', meaning '1 sol'.
Obverse Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. Along the rim is the name of the French Republic in French: left 'REPUBLIQUE', right 'FRANÇOISE.'. In the central part, on a vertically unfurled scroll, is the inscription 'LES HOMMES SONT EGAUX DEVANT LA LOI', translating from French as 'All men are equal before the law'. Above the scroll, an all-seeing eye 'shines'; to the left is a bunch of grapes, to the right are five bound ears of wheat. Below is the date according to the revolutionary calendar 'L’AN II.', corresponding to the year 1793.
