In the central part, at the top, a two-line inscription in French: "UN / SENTIME.", which translates as "one centime". Below it is the date according to the Revolutionary calendar "L'AN 7" — corresponding to 1798. At the bottom is the mintmark of the Paris Mint — "A".
Obverse
Decorative raised dots along the rim. Inscriptions in French along the edge, left "REPUBLIQUE", right "FRANÇAISE", translating as "French Republic". In the central part, a left-facing profile of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap. Below it is the engraver's signature of Augustin Dupré.
