    In the central part, within an octagon, is an ancient Greek depiction of a woman's head facing left, wearing a floral wreath. Above and below are five running ancient Greek athletes each. To the left of her is a two-line inscription: 'ATLANTA XXVI', to the right is the coat of arms of Ukraine, above it the Olympic rings. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is text in Ukrainian: 'ПЕРША УЧАСТЬ У ЛIТНIХ ОЛIМПIЙСЬКИХ IГРАХ', which translates to 'First Participation in the Summer Olympic Games'.

    In the central part is the coat of arms of Ukraine. Radiating from it are five curved stripes resembling stadium running tracks. To the right and left of the lower part of the coat of arms are three laurel leaves each. Above the coat of arms is the country name in Ukrainian: 'УКРАЇНА'. Below it is the year of mintage, 1996. In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, is an inscription in Ukrainian: '200 000 КАРБОВАНЦЇВ' - 200 thousand karbovanets.
