In the central part of the reverse, a relief image of an antique steam locomotive. Above it, the mintmark of the Havana mint, a two-line inscription in Spanish: 'BARCELONA-MATARO' and the year of issue 1989. In the upper part, along the rim, the text in Spanish: '140 ANIV. DEL 1-er FERROCARRIL ESPANOL', which translates to: '140th Anniversary of the First Railway in Spain'. Along the lower rim, the years 1848-1988.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above, an inscription in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA', which translates to: 'Republic of Cuba'. In the lower part, along the rim, an inscription in Spanish: '1 PESO'. To the left and right of the coat of arms, along the edge, are two five-pointed stars.
