In the central part, an old three-masted sailing ship navigates rough seas; to its left, a parrot sits on a branch; below, a chest floats on the waves. To the left of the chest is the year of issue 1994, below it the mintmark of the Havana mint. Along the upper and lower edges is an inscription in Spanish: «500 ANOS del DECUBRIMIENTO de la ISLA del EVANGELISTA», which translates to: «500th Anniversary of the Discovery of Evangelista Island».
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above it, an inscription in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DE CUBA», which translates to: «Republic of Cuba». Along the lower edge of the coin is an inscription in Spanish: «1 PESO» - 1 peso.
