Reverse The central part of the reverse features a relief design of the seated goddess Liberty facing left, with a Phrygian cap on a spear in her right hand. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is an inscription in Spanish, separated by three five-pointed stars: «UN OCTAVO», meaning 'one eighth' - 1/8 (real). The coin's edge has decorative raised denticles.
Obverse The central part depicts a bow, a quiver with arrows, and a flag. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs the text in Spanish: «ESTADO LIBRE DE JALISCO», which translates to 'Free State of Jalisco'. In the lower part along the arc of the edge, separated by six-petaled flowers, is the mint year 1856. The coin's edge has decorative raised denticles.
