    In the central part, an inscription in four lines: 'MACU…', below it a countermark from the period 1809-1837, all surrounded by five four-petaled flowers of two types (two and three in quantity) and enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left is an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA.PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim is the mint year 1763, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge is a text in Latin: 'IOSEPHUS.I.D.G.REX.P.ET.D.GUIN', the title of King of Portugal Joseph I the Reformer.
