    Along the upper edge, the country name in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA'. In the center, a seated female figure holding a cornucopia in her right hand and scales in her left. The figure rests on a pedestal inscribed '30 DE JUNIO DE 1871' (June 30, 1871). Below the image, a two-line inscription: '1 REAL / NIQUEL' (One Real / Nickel).

    A decorative beaded border along the rim. The date '1912' at the bottom. In the center, the coat of arms of Guatemala. On two crossed Remington rifles with bayonets and two swords rests a scroll inscribed 'LIBERTAD 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821' (Liberty September 15, 1821), the date of Central America's independence from Spain. A quetzal bird, symbolizing liberty, sits atop the scroll. Two olive branches frame the composition on three sides.
