In the central part, the coat of arms of the Brazilian Empire: the heraldic shield is crowned with the imperial crown and framed on three sides by a wreath formed by branches of a coffee tree on the left and tobacco on the right, tied at the base. On the shield, within a round frame of evenly distributed stars, is depicted an armillary sphere on a background of a cross pattée. Above the coat of arms is a horizontal Latin inscription 'IN HOC S. VINCES', translated as 'With this you shall conquer', divided by the cross of the crown.
Obverse
Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. Along the rim: left, top, and right, a Latin inscription 'PETRUS II. D.G.CONST. IMP. ET PERP. BRAS.DEF.', translated as 'Peter II by the Grace of God and the Constitution, Emperor of Brazil'; at the bottom, the year of mintage '1851'. In the central part, within a circular wreath, are large numerals '2000', above and below which is a decorative raised pattern in the form of a quatrefoil with two diverging horizontal rays.
