Along the upper edge, an inscription in Portuguese: "DECRETO N°1817 DE 3 DE SETEMBRO DE 1870" - "DECREE No. 1817 OF SEPTEMBER 3, 1870". In the center, the denomination "200 RÉIS" in two lines against a background of horizontal and vertical hatching. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Empire of Brazil, pattern of 1831-1889. A coffee branch is depicted on the left and a tobacco branch on the right, crossing at the bottom and tied with a ribbon. Along the rim are inscriptions in Portuguese: at the top, "IMPERIO DO BRASIL" - "EMPIRE OF BRAZIL"; at the bottom, the year of minting: "1888". The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
