Reverse

Along the upper edge, an inscription in Portuguese: "DECRETO N°1817 DE 3 DE SETEMBRO DE 1870" - "DECREE No. 1817 OF SEPTEMBER 3, 1870". In the central part, the denomination "50 RÉIS" in two lines against a background of horizontal and vertical hatching. Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.

Obverse

In the central part, the coat of arms of the Brazilian Empire (pattern of 1831-1889). A coffee branch is depicted on the left and a tobacco branch on the right, crossing at the bottom and tied with a bow. Inscriptions in Portuguese along the rim: at the top, "IMPERIO DO BRASIL" - "EMPIRE OF BRAZIL"; at the bottom, the year of minting: "1886". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
