    The central part of the reverse features a relief image of fighters crossing a water obstacle. To the right is the year of issue, 1988. At its lower part is the mintmark of the Havana mint. In the upper part, along the rim's arc, is text in Spanish: 'XXXV ANIV. DEL ASALTO AL CUARTEL MONCADA', which translates to '35th Anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada Garrison'. Along the arc of the lower rim are the years 1953-1988.

    The central part features the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above it is an inscription in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA', meaning 'Republic of Cuba'. In the lower part, along the arc of the coin's rim, is an inscription in Spanish: '1 PESO' - 1 peso. To the left and right of the coat of arms, along the edge, are two five-pointed stars.
