Reverse An inscription in Spanish along the left and right edges of the coin reads: "REY DE LAS ESPAÑAS" ("KING OF THE SPANIARDS"). In the center, within a wreath of fleur-de-lis, is the lesser coat of arms of the King of Spain - a cross with two lions and two castles in the quarters. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
Obverse In the center is the right-facing profile of Ferdinand VII. To the left of the portrait is the numeral "8", to the right is the letter "M". An inscription in Spanish along the edge reads: "FERN·7º POR LA G.DE DIOS Y LA CONST" ("FERDINAND VII BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE CONSTITUTION"). The date "1823" is at the bottom.
