    In the central part, a sailing ship, the flagship of J. Cook who discovered New Zealand, with three masts sails on the sea against the background of Mount Egmont. On the left is a large number 50. On the right is the engraver's mark of James Berry, the letters 'JB' (George James Berry). Below the ship, the name in English 'ENDEAVOUR' — literally translated as 'effort'.

    Along the arc of the coin's edge in the left part is the inscription 'ELIZABETH II'. Translated as 'Elizabeth the Second'. To the right, the issuing country 'NEW ZEALAND' is struck. Below is the year of minting '1974'. In the central part is a right-facing profile of the Queen wearing a crown.
