    In the central part, within a smaller circle, two sparrows facing each other are depicted, sitting on a branch of a thorny plant; below the branch, the monogram 'KG' - the engraver's mark of George Edward Kruger-Gray. Around the edge of the coin, the text: on the right and left, the name of the state South Africa in Afrikaans and English: 'SUID-AFRIKA. SOUTH AFRICA'; at the top, separated by triangles, the mint year 1950; at the bottom, separated by two decorative elements consisting of four-rayed stars and four dots: '1/4 D.' - 1/4 penny. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.

    In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of King George VI. Below the neck truncation, the monogram 'HP' - the engraver's mark of Thomas Humphrey Paget. Around the edge of the coin, the inscription: 'GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX' in English, which translates to 'George VI King'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
