Along the upper edge, an inscription in Portuguese: "DECRETO N°1817 DE 3 DE SETEMBRO DE 1870" - "Decree No. 1817 of September 3, 1870". In the central part - the denomination 100 Reis in two lines: "100 RÉIS". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Empire of Brazil, pattern of 1831-1889. On the left is a coffee branch, on the right a tobacco branch, which cross at the bottom and are tied with a ribbon. Along the rim are inscriptions in Portuguese, at the top: "IMPERIO DO BRASIL" - "EMPIRE OF BRAZIL", at the bottom - the year of issue: "1872". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
