    In the central part, a large numeral 5 on the left. On the right at the top, a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT', meaning 'five euro cents'. Below the inscription, a symbolic depiction of the globe with the outlines of Europe against a background of six slanted parallel lines, with 12 stars at their ends. Near the rim on the right – the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'.

    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the Eurozone countries. Below, the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. In the central part, the coat of arms of the Apostolic Camerlengo – the symbol of the Holy See during the interregnum. Above the emblem, the Latin inscription 'SEDE VACANTE MMV' – 'The See is vacant 2005'. Below the coat of arms, inscriptions in Italian: 'ELF INC' – the personal mark of engraver Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini and the signature of the artist Daniela Longo 'D.LONGO'.
