    In the central part, within a smaller circle, a three-masted sailing ship facing right; below the ship's bow, the monogram 'KG' - the engraver's mark of George Edward Kruger-Gray. Around the edge of the coin, text: on the right and left, the name of the state South Africa in Afrikaans and English: 'SUID-AFRIKA. SOUTH AFRICA'; at the top, separated by four-rayed stars, the year of issue 1937; at the bottom, separated by two decorative elements consisting of four-rayed stars and four dots: '1/2D.' - 1/2 penny. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.

    In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of King George VI. Below the truncation of the neck, the monogram 'HP' - the engraver's mark of Thomas Humphrey Paget. Around the edge of the coin, the inscription: 'GEORGIVS VI REX IMPERATOR' in English, which translates to: 'George VI King and Emperor'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
