From them, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending in 12 stars.

Obverse

Near the rim, forming an outer circle, are 12 stars symbolizing the countries of the European Union. At the top within the inner circle is the state name in French 'MONACO'. At the bottom is the year of mintage 2013. To the left of the date is the mintmark of the Paris Mint – a cornucopia. To the right is the personal mark of the Director of the Paris Mint, Yves Sampo – a pentagon containing the abbreviations 'AG' – fr. Atelier de Gravure, Engraving Workshop; 'MP' – fr. Monnaie de Paris et Pessac, Paris Mint at Pessac, and the initials of the mint master 'YS'. In the central part are the princely crown and the cypher of the reigning monarch, Prince Albert II.
